Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has reflected on his brief venture into the music industry, describing it as a humbling but valuable experience. Speaking in an interview with Saturday Punch, Iyke explained that doing music was more of a personal challenge than a professional ambition.
He recalled collaborating with legendary singer 2Baba, which he described as exciting, yet the experience made him realize the importance of knowing his limits. According to him, while he could have pursued music further, he might have ended up as one of many artistes struggling to remain relevant after initial success.
Iyke emphasized that he does not see the phase as a failure but as an opportunity that broadened his perspective and offered insights into a different industry. He stated that the experience eventually led him back to acting, where he has since established himself as one of Nollywood’s leading figures.
“Doing music was a regrettable experience; not in a bitter way, but in a humbling one. At that point in my life, it was just fun. 2Baba and I had a great time with it. For me, it was a dare, a phase when I thought I could do anything. God allowed it, but He also humbled me. I don’t live with regrets though, only lessons and triumphs,” Iyke said.
He further noted that the knowledge he gained from the music scene could prove useful in the future. According to him, he would not hesitate to take on the role of a music executive, as his experience ensures that he understands the business side of the industry.
