Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Mourns Elder Brother, Aminu Pate

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has lost his elder brother, Aminu Pate.

A statement issued by the Media and Publicity Officer of the Zazzau Emirate Council, Malam Abdullahi Kwarbai, confirmed that Pate passed away late on Wednesday at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, after a prolonged illness.

The deceased, who until his death held the traditional title of Wamban Dawakin Zazzau, was a retired civil servant who rose to the position of Director of Personnel Management and served across various local government councils in Kaduna State.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral prayers for his repose were scheduled to take place at the Emir of Zazzau’s Palace at 2:30 pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in political circles, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to recent remarks and subsequent retraction by Speaker Abbas on Nigeria’s rising debt profile. The party described his withdrawal as a missed opportunity for courageous leadership, stressing that his initial concern about the country’s critical debt levels was a rare moment of honesty from within the ruling party.
