Spokesperson / Media and Publicity Secretary, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calls on the government of the United States of America and the broader international community to urgently intervene and uncover the truth behind the worsening insecurity in Southeast Nigeria.
This appeal follows a sustained campaign of falsehood and propaganda orchestrated by the Nigerian government and its allies — a desperate attempt to shift attention from their catastrophic failure to secure the lives and property of citizens.
Rather than confront the real architects of violence, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government — a party already recognized by a Canadian court as a terrorist organization — has resorted to scapegoating IPOB, a peaceful self-determination movement. It continues to shield those truly responsible: the well-funded merchants of insecurity within its own ranks, often operating through compromised politicians of Igbo extraction who trade the welfare of their people for political survival and personal enrichment.
A Call for U.S. Investigation
We urge the United States government to deploy a neutral, fact-finding mission to the Southeast for an on-the-ground investigation into the root causes of the ongoing insecurity.
Such an impartial assessment will determine whether IPOB — a globally recognized non-violent organization — bears any responsibility, or whether the violence is being manufactured by those who profit from chaos.
The Nigerian government’s repeated allegations, echoed by biased state media outlets and individuals like Senate President Godswill Akpabio, are a calculated smokescreen — an effort to cover up state-sponsored violence and silence legitimate agitation for freedom through deceit and international manipulation.
Nnamdi Kanu’s Unlawful Detention: The Core of the Crisis
It is a matter of public record that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains unlawfully detained by the Nigerian government, despite multiple court orders demanding his release. His illegal abduction from Kenya and continued detention violate not only Nigerian court rulings but also international human rights conventions.
The truth is simple: the federal government knows that a free Nnamdi Kanu means peace and stability in the Southeast. It is for this reason that his freedom is being suppressed — because chaos sustains the corrupt.
While billions of naira are siphoned monthly under the guise of “security votes,” innocent Biafrans continue to bleed. Ironically, these same politicians — including some from the Southeast — openly advocate negotiations with northern bandits and terrorists, yet insist that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must remain imprisoned.
This is the hypocrisy of the Nigerian state, a colonial creation built on deceit and sustained through injustice.
Truth, Accountability, and the Moral Burden of the United States
IPOB reaffirms its readiness to face the truth. We therefore welcome an impartial international investigation.
If such an inquiry — conducted by the U.S. or any credible international body — finds IPOB complicit in acts of insecurity, we pledge to voluntarily disband. However, if (as we are certain) it exposes the Nigerian government and its agents as the true masterminds of terror in the Southeast, the world must hold them accountable for their crimes against humanity.
The time has come for the U.S. government, as a global defender of democracy and justice, to intervene before more innocent lives are lost. Silence in the face of ongoing atrocities is complicity.
What is unfolding in the Southeast mirrors the wider tragedy across Nigeria: Christians and minorities are being slaughtered daily, while those elected to protect them collaborate with their tormentors.
This betrayal of conscience by some Igbo politicians, many of whom are aligned with the ruling APC, has deepened the pain of our people. Instead of defending their constituents, they defend the very structure that dehumanizes them.
This cannot continue. The United States, the international community, and all people of conscience must recognize that truth and transparency are the only paths to peace.
Conclusion
The Indigenous People of Biafra stand firm in the belief that truth will outlive tyranny.
We call upon the United States, global human rights organizations, and all lovers of freedom to support this call for transparency and justice.
Let the world see the truth through independent investigation — and let those who profit from bloodshed be unmasked before history.
Biafra shall rise through truth, not through tyranny.
