Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.Gen Faruk Yahaya, has vehemently rejected allegations linking him to individuals allegedly involved in terrorism financing, describing the claims as false and malicious.
The accusations, which were published by Sahara Reporters and attributed to retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi, alleged that Yahaya had ties to suspected terror financiers. However, Yahaya, through a statement issued by his representative, retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Saturday in Abuja, dismissed the allegations as “spurious, baseless, and entirely untrue.”
Yahaya categorically stated that at no point during his career, whether before, during, or after serving as Chief of Army Staff, had he been involved in any terrorism financing or activities that jeopardised national security.
At no point in his career, before, during, or after serving as Chief of Army Staff, did Lt.-Gen. Yahaya have any direct or indirect association with anyone involved in terrorism financing or activities that undermine national security,” the statement read.
Accusing Ali-Keffi of pursuing a “personal vendetta,” Yahaya attributed the allegations to disciplinary actions taken against Ali-Keffi during his time in service. He further described the publication of the allegations as malicious and lacking any factual basis.
“These allegations run contrary to Gen. Yahaya’s impeccable service record, professional integrity, and lifelong commitment to the defense of Nigeria,” the statement added.
The former army chief demanded an immediate retraction of the report from Ali-Keffi, Sahara Reporters, and others involved in spreading the baseless claims. Yahaya warned that failure to retract the allegations would result in legal action to protect his name and reputation.
He reiterated his dedication to Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, stressing that the national effort requires “responsibility, patriotism, and truth, not propaganda driven by personal grudges.”
