The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Moroccan referee Jalal Jiyed as the centre official for today’s third-place playoff between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The match will be played at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, as both sides seek to end their campaigns on a high after missing out on the final. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm WAT.
Jiyed will be supported by assistant referees Zakaria Brinsi, Akarkad Mostafa and Hassani Khalil, while Peter Waweru Kamaku has been named the fourth official. Video assistant referee duties will be overseen by Algerian official Lahlu Benbraham, assisted by Haythem Guirat and Hamza El Fariq. Sinko Zeli will serve as referee assessor for the penultimate match of the tournament.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria arrive in Casablanca after a dramatic semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco, losing on penalties after a tense game. Egypt, on the other hand, were edged out 1-0 by defending champions Senegal in a closely fought last-four encounter.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made clear his desire to finish the competition positively, with pride and momentum at stake. Egypt boss Hossam Hassan is equally determined, viewing the playoff as a chance to secure a podium finish and restore confidence.
