The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will review the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results following an outcry from candidates and parents over unusually low scores.
In a statement released on Monday, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin said the board had fast-tracked its routine post-examination audit in response to a surge of grievances since the results were published last Friday.
“If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves,” the statement read.
JAMB said it was particularly concerned about complaints emanating from specific states and assured the public that all technical aspects of the exam from registration to scoring are under thorough investigation.
As part of the audit, the board confirmed it had enlisted the support of independent experts, including:
- Members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria
- Vice Chancellors of tertiary institutions
- Chief External Examiners
- The Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa
- Psychometric and measurement specialists
These experts will help JAMB assess whether systemic flaws may have contributed to the widespread underperformance.
JAMB reiterated that it is standard procedure to reschedule exams for candidates affected by confirmed technical issues during the test period.
The review follows growing online protests under the hashtag #ThisIsNotMyResult, with many students and parents alleging discrepancies between expected and actual scores.
Out of the nearly 2 million candidates who sat for this year’s UTME, more than 1.5 million reportedly scored below 200 out of a total 400 a figure that has raised national concern and renewed scrutiny of the exam body’s processes.
