Controversial media personality and pharmacist Kemi Olunloyo has sparked outrage online with her reaction to the death of former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, whom she accused of suppressing press freedom during his military regime.
In a post shared via her X (formerly Twitter) account, Olunloyo described Buhari as a “pathological violator of press freedom”, likening his authoritarian rule to her strained relationship with her late father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a prominent political figure.
“Buhari and my father Olunloyo meet for the FIRST TIME at the Gates of Hell Same year 2025. My father never met Buhari despite being in the same political party APC and ending my dad’s democracy in 1983,” she tweeted.
Olunloyo further claimed that Buhari’s family misrepresented his age and should now come clean about it:
“Hope his family can now tell the world he was 89 and not 82, cos he was 48yo, same age as my dad in 1983 when he took over Shagari’s democracy,” she added.She also remarked that she hoped Buhari’s widow would move on and remarry.
Her remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some condemning her comments as disrespectful and insensitive, while others defended her right to speak out against historical injustices linked to Buhari’s rule.
Olunloyo has long been a polarising figure, known for her blunt opinions and outspoken critiques of political leaders, especially those she holds responsible for press repression and democratic setbacks.
