De Castle Inn, a once-prominent hotel located along Queen Elizabeth II Road in the Total Garden-Gate axis of Ibadan, has been demolished.
Demolition crews, accompanied by heavy machinery, arrived at the site early in the morning and tore down the structure, which had long been a notable hospitality hub in Oyo State’s capital.
Although authorities have not released an official explanation for the demolition, growing speculation suggests it may be part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to clear abandoned or underutilized buildings across the city.
In recent months, the government had issued several public notices warning of plans to reclaim or remove properties deemed unsafe or unproductive, citing urban development and public safety.
Local residents noted that De Castle Inn had not been in full operation for some time, further fueling assumptions that it was targeted under these redevelopment directives.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State government has not issued a formal statement regarding the demolition.
