President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to officially commission the newly established College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), following its provisional approval as a private postgraduate university.
The development was confirmed by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Ahmad Galadima Aminu, at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Monday.
Governor Sani praised President Tinubu for backing the vision behind the institution, describing it as a critical step toward transforming Nigeria’s petroleum and energy sectors through innovation and manpower development.
“We cannot make progress in a fast-changing and complex society if we fail to develop local capacity,” the governor said.“This college, if well supported, has the potential to develop the kind of local manpower that will change the face of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.”
He further pledged the Kaduna State Government’s full support to ensure CPESK’s successful takeoff and operations, urging the PTDF to reach out for any needed assistance.During the visit, PTDF boss Ahmad Galadima Aminu briefed the governor on the college’s readiness and academic roadmap. He revealed that CPESK would begin operations by admitting its first batch of PhD students in September 2025.
“A total of 3,702 applications were received for our Split-Site PhD Programme. Screening and interviews are ongoing, and successful candidates will soon be admitted into five faculties,” Galadima stated.
He added that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 19 academic programmes across six departments and three faculties, solidifying the institution’s foundation for world-class petroleum and energy education.
