Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, has expressed support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s stance that Peter Obi, former presidential candidate, must obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.
According to a report by Naija News, Governor Okpebholo recently cautioned Obi against entering the state without prior notification, citing a previous visit that was allegedly linked to a security breach resulting in the death of three individuals.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television on Friday, Oshiomhole said it is a matter of protocol, decency, and self-respect for someone of Obi’s status to notify the state governor before making such visits.
He emphasized the importance of informing relevant authorities when high-profile individuals plan to enter a state, particularly when state-owned institutions are involved.
“Let’s be clear—the property in question belongs to the Edo State Government and is under the authority of the governor. If I were to visit a government-run institution in Enugu or Anambra while Obi was governor, it would be only proper and respectful to inform the government,” he explained.
Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State himself, acknowledged his cordial relationship with Obi but clarified their political differences.
“Peter Obi and I were colleagues. I liked him then and still do, but we disagree politically. I don’t share his views on certain issues,” he added.
