Certain People Need to ‘Kpai’ for Nigeria to Become Great – El-Rufai’s Son

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that some individuals may have to die for Nigeria to attain the greatness its citizens desire.

Bashir and his father have been outspoken critics of the current administration since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

Recently, his father once a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) publicly renounced his membership of the party.

Nasir El-Rufai has since aligned himself with the opposition coalition seeking to unseat Tinubu and the APC. He was initially linked to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before moving to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the official platform of the coalition.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Bashir maintained that Nigeria still has the potential to become great.

He, however, noted that for this to happen, certain people have to “kpai” – Nigerian slang for death.

His words, “Nigeria can become great again. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on context) a few certain people have to kpai to achieve this dream.”
