Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed support for Peter Obi’s potential presidential candidacy in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This comes after an X user asked Bashir if he would support Obi if he emerges as the ADC flag bearer.
Responding to the question, El-Rufai’s son said he will certainly support him, adding that Peter Obi might save the nation from what he describes as “urban bandits” in the Presidential Villa, likely referring to the current administration.

“An emphatic yes. He may save us from these urban bandits in the Presidential Villa,” Bashir stated.
“This declaration comes after an X user asked him if he would support Obi if he emerges as the ADC flag bearer. Bashir’s endorsement is significant, given his father’s influential position in Nigerian politics.
Bashir attributes Obi’s potential success to his massive following and cult-like fan base, which he believes poses a serious challenge to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambitions.
According to Bashir, Obi’s appeal across demographics, particularly among the youth, positions him as a formidable contender.
“The sheer force of Obi’s numbers and cult-like followership brings a challenge. His appeal across the youth and this younger generation is one profound aspect of his leverage,” he noted.
Bashir’s support for Obi suggests that the latter’s influence could tilt the scales in the 2027 presidential election.
