Hon. Nafiu Bala, the factional Acting National Chairman and former Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denied authoring a viral letter announcing his resignation from the party.
In a statement released on Friday, Bala dismissed the document—dated May 18, 2025 and purportedly bearing his signature—as forged and misleading.It will be recalled that the David Mark-led faction of the ADC had earlier rejected Bala’s claim to the party’s leadership, citing a resignation letter allegedly signed by him on May 17, 2025.
That letter, addressed to the national chairman at the ADC headquarters in Garki, Abuja, stated that Bala had resigned to support ongoing coalition efforts and restructuring, effective May 26.
The document, titled “Letter of Resignation as Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)”, was circulated by the party’s spokesperson.However, Bala has vehemently denied the letter’s authenticity, blaming its circulation on internal and external forces bent on causing confusion and division within the party.
He argued that the party’s constitution is clear: anyone vying for a leadership role must be a financially active member for no less than one year—an indication that the rules governing party leadership remain intact.
Bala also referenced former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, who, during a public address at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, confirmed his continued role in the party.
“In his address to the global press, Nwosu specifically stated: ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman.’ That alone renders any claim of my resignation null and void,” Bala said.
He further pointed out discrepancies in the viral letter, noting that it was printed on plain paper and lacked official ADC insignia or branding—unlike all authentic correspondence from his office.
“This inconsistency alone exposes the forged nature of the letter and the malicious agenda behind it,” he added.Bala reiterated that the ADC constitution requires any leadership aspirant to be a financial member in good standing for at least one year—a rule that remains fully in force.
He urged party members, supporters, and the public to disregard the misinformation and remain steadfast, assuring them of his continued commitment to the ideals of the ADC and its vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.
