Fenerbahce legend Umit Ozat has raised concerns over the financial magnitude of Victor Osimhen’s record-breaking move to Galatasaray, describing the deal as one that surpasses the economic capabilities of Turkish football.
Speaking on SkySpor’s YouTube channel, Ozat expressed skepticism about the sustainability of such a high-profile signing, despite acknowledging Osimhen’s quality and value as a player.
Galatasaray paid €75 million to sign the Nigerian striker from Napoli — the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history. Osimhen’s deal also includes an annual salary of €15 million, a €1 million loyalty bonus, and €5 million in image rights.
“Can anyone say signing Osimhen was a bad decision? Of course not,” Ozat stated. “But the financial burden is beyond the scope of our national economy. If Fenerbahçe had made the same move, I would still say the same thing.”
He added, “Osimhen is a top-tier, high-quality player, but these kinds of figures are simply too much for Turkish clubs. I don’t begrudge the signing, but spending such huge amounts shouldn’t be taken lightly.”
Osimhen has already joined his new teammates in training as Galatasaray prepares for the 2025–26 season, set to begin later this month.
