Northerners Will Defend Peter Obi’s Popularity – Peter Ameh

A former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, has stated that the people of Northern Nigeria have embraced Peter Obi’s presidential ambition and his single-term proposal.

Speaking on Channels Television, Ameh assured that, unlike in the last election, mechanisms will be established to safeguard Obi’s growing popularity in the region.

According to him, the former Anambra governor, who is seeking the presidency in 2027, is not coming to “learn on the job” and does not have an “it’s-my-turn” mindset like President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am from Northern Nigeria, and as I speak today, the prevailing decision among our people favours Peter Obi,” Ameh said.

“The North is diverse and politically complex, but not as difficult as people think. In states like Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Plateau, his performance was very clear. We want a free, fair, and credible election.

“Peter Obi has publicly declared that he will serve only one term to maintain the balance of our unwritten political arrangement. We should be seeking a leader with compassion, discipline, character, and competence — not one driven by ethnicity or religion.

“We will challenge all illegal actions that undermined our voters and election results. We will put mechanisms in place to defend the popularity and acceptance Peter Obi now enjoys.”
