Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has opened up about how she navigated one of the most difficult moments of her life — the release of her sex tape in October 2021, which followed an attempted blackmail.
In an interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, Savage revealed that the scandal coincided with the loss of her father, making it the darkest period in her career.
“My dad died and my sex tape was released. The only way I could have survived was not to think about it,” she said.
Savage explained that avoiding dwelling on the incident was her key to emotional survival. She described the opportunity to sit for the interview as a blessing, noting how much it meant to still have people interested in her story after enduring so much.
“Just the fact that you even want to talk to me, people want to hear what I have to say after how many years — it feels good. I’ve gone through so much, but have I really enjoyed the moments?” she reflected.
