The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of 21 foreign nationals linked to a high-profile cybercrime syndicate operating in the country.
Force PRO DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the group was involved in large-scale internet fraud, hacking, and other cyber offenses. The convicts were among 130 suspects—mostly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, along with 17 Nigerian collaborators—arrested in November 2024 during a raid in Abuja.
Following months of investigation, the suspects were arraigned on December 2, 2024, with prosecutors presenting robust digital forensic evidence and expert testimonies.
As of August 1, 2025, 21 foreign nationals have been sentenced, while prosecution of the remaining defendants continues in partnership with the Ministry of Justice.
The police stressed that the convictions send a strong warning to cybercriminal networks that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for illicit online activities.
