The Yobe State Police Command has condemned a violent farmland dispute in Gulani Local Government Area that left two people dead and two others injured.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed that the conflict began during last year’s farming season and has continued to escalate despite the Command’s efforts to mediate through the State Boundary Adjustment Committee.
On August 9, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from the Village Head of Zango, Gulani LGA. He reported an attack by individuals from Azere Village in Gujba LGA, allegedly over farmland ownership.
The assault claimed the lives of Sani Makeri (40) and Abdullahi Maicitta (35), both from Zango. The police noted that Zango and Azere villages are situated along the boundary between Gujba and Gulani LGAs, an area known for territorial disputes.
Police operatives quickly responded, recovering the bodies and transporting the injured to a specialist hospital in Damaturu, where they are receiving treatment.
The attackers fled before security forces arrived. The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits.
