Osun Police Arrest Six Cultists, Recover Stolen Phones from Festival Thief

The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists and a phone thief in separate operations in Osogbo, the state capital.

The arrests, carried out between Thursday, August 7, and Friday, August 8, 2025, were confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ojelabi Abiodun, on Monday.

According to the PPRO, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit apprehended the six suspects — believed to be members of the Aiye confraternity — after they allegedly stormed the Osun Mall in the Fakunle area of Osogbo armed with dangerous weapons.

The suspects were identified as:

  1. Olaosebikan Oriyomi (32), a.k.a. Yahoo – alleged leader of the group
  2. Wale Adeyeye (37), a.k.a. Mafia
  3. Olumide Olayemi (33)
  4. Omotayo Kehinde (23)
  5. Ajibola Damilola (20)
  6. Yinka Oladipo (18)

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, also announced the arrest of Taiwo Akeem (28) for allegedly stealing phones during the recently concluded Osun Osogbo Festival.

Recovered items from Akeem include:

Two Samsung phones

One Infinix phone

One Vivo phone

One Tecno phone

Gotan urged victims of phone theft during the festival to contact the Command via the PPRO on 09060052947 to reclaim their property.

He also warned parents and guardians to guide their wards against joining unlawful groups, stressing that cultism and criminal activities could jeopardize their future.

DSP Ojelabi confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
