A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is supporting Aminu Ado Bayero in the Kano emirate tussle as part of a political strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Galadima claimed the federal government is using the emirate crisis to gain political leverage in Kano State.
He stressed that both Bayero and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II are laying claim to the throne, fueling a battle between tradition and politics.
Sanusi had succeeded Bayero’s late father in 2014 but was later dethroned in 2020 by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and replaced with Bayero. In May 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi, sparking resistance from Bayero’s camp and a prolonged legal dispute.
Galadima questioned why the federal high court should entertain a chieftaincy matter and accused the government of deploying security agencies to destabilise Kano for political purposes.
“Was it not Tinubu who once supported Sanusi to become emir? Let him deny it, and I will provide proof,” he insisted.
Kwankwaso Won’t Support Tinubu
The NNPP stalwart also dismissed speculations that NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would back President Tinubu in 2027.
“Nobody should say Kwankwaso has agreed to join APC or support Tinubu. If such talks happened, I would know. He remains the strongest political force in this country today, having outsmarted the APC in Kano,” Galadima said.
