The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the establishment of two new area commands and the upgrade of five police stations to divisional status in Benue State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the state command’s spokesperson, Udeme Edet, the restructuring follows a review of recent security challenges and operations, which revealed gaps in police presence across some local government areas.
The newly created area commands are Daudu Area Command and Naka Area Command, while the police stations upgraded to divisions include Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan.
Daudu Area Command will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Divisions, while Naka Area Command will cover Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Divisions.
Edet explained that the adjustment will strengthen security operations in troubled areas with difficult terrains, enhance timely response to distress calls, and help resolve recurring farmer-herder conflicts.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, has expressed appreciation to the IGP for the restructuring and also thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for his continued support towards ensuring the protection of lives and property in the state.
