Robert Lewandowski has officially confirmed that he will leave FC Barcelona this summer after bringing an end to a successful four-year spell with the Spanish giants.
The veteran Polish striker made the announcement on Saturday, revealing that he would depart the club once his current contract expires.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona from FC Bayern Munich in 2022 during a difficult period for the Catalan side, who were battling financial problems and struggling to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite clubs.
Despite the challenges, the experienced forward quickly became one of the team’s most influential players, scoring an impressive 119 goals in 191 appearances across all competitions.
During his time at Camp Nou, Lewandowski helped Barcelona secure three La Liga titles, including this season’s championship triumph, while also playing a key role in the club’s Copa del Rey success in 2025.
In an emotional farewell message shared on Instagram, the 37-year-old said he was leaving with a sense of fulfilment after helping restore Barcelona to the top of Spanish football.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” Lewandowski wrote.
“I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships.”
The striker also reflected on the bond he built with the club and its supporters, describing Catalonia as a place that would always remain special to him.
“Barca is back where it belongs,” he added.
“I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.”
Lewandowski is expected to make his final appearance at Camp Nou on Sunday when Barcelona face Real Betis, with manager Hansi Flick confirming that the Polish striker will start the match.
Speaking ahead of the farewell game, Flick praised Lewandowski’s professionalism, leadership and contribution both on and off the pitch.
“He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona,” Flick said.
“I’ve worked with Robert now for years, and we won together nine trophies. All the titles I’ve won were with him.”
The German coach, who previously managed Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, described him as a role model for younger players and one of the finest professionals he has ever worked with.
“For me, it’s a privilege to work with him. Every day he gave everything to remain at the highest level,” Flick added.
“He’s a fantastic human being and also a world-class player.”
Barcelona also paid tribute to the departing striker on social media, thanking him for his goals, dedication and unforgettable moments at the club.
“Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every fight, and every magical moment wearing these colours,” the club wrote.
“He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend.”
Widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation, Lewandowski finished as La Liga’s top scorer in his debut season under former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
Although he faced increased competition this season from Spain international Ferran Torres, Lewandowski still managed to score 18 goals in 44 appearances.
The veteran forward has yet to reveal his next destination, but reports have linked him with possible moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States as he prepares for the next chapter of his illustrious career.
