Nigerian Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has dismissed reports claiming he angrily walked out of the traditional wedding ceremony of popular TikTok personalities Peller and Jarvis, describing the viral narrative as a false interpretation of events.
Speculation had emerged on social media after videos showed Seun leaving the lavish wedding venue in Lagos before the event ended, prompting claims that he exited in protest after one of the Masters of Ceremony (MCs) allegedly compared award-winning singer Wizkid to his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The reports quickly gained traction online, with many users suggesting the Afrobeat star was displeased by the alleged comparison and chose to leave the ceremony in anger.
However, Seun has now denied the claims.
Speaking in a video that has since gone viral, alongside Fuji musician Sulaimon Alao Adekunle Malaika, Seun explained that he simply left the event to honour another engagement at the New Afrika Shrine.
According to him, his departure had nothing to do with any comment made by the MCs, accusing bloggers of creating a misleading narrative around the incident.
“I left the wedding to go to the Shrine, and these bloggers twisted things, saying I was angry. Maybe I should have danced out of the ceremony,” he said jokingly.
His explanation comes amid widespread debate over the viral video, which showed him making his way through the chandelier-lit reception hall accompanied by two associates before exiting the venue.
MC Edo Pikin Rejects Viral Claims
Meanwhile, Nigerian comedian and actor Gbadamosi Jonathan, popularly known as MC Edo Pikin, has also addressed the controversy, disputing claims that any of the event’s MCs compared Fela to Wizkid.
In a video shared online, the comedian described the allegation as entirely false, insisting that no such comparison was made during the wedding.
According to him, the MCs were in fact acknowledging and praising Seun Kuti when the incident occurred, but the singer allegedly left before hearing the full context of the remarks.
Edo Pikin urged Seun to always exercise patience and verify information before reacting to situations that could easily be misunderstood.
He maintained that the controversy was based on misinformation and had been amplified by social media speculation rather than the actual events that unfolded at the ceremony.
The incident has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with fans divided over the conflicting accounts. While some applauded Seun for clarifying the situation, others called for greater caution before drawing conclusions from short video clips circulating on social media.
The wedding of Peller and Jarvis attracted numerous celebrities, entertainers, and social media personalities, making it one of the most talked-about events of the weekend. However, discussions surrounding Seun Kuti’s departure briefly overshadowed parts of the celebration before his public clarification.
