Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a serving soldier and four other suspected drug traffickers during a raid on a notorious drug hideout in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, which was intelligence-led, was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on July 30 in the Congo-Russia area, following reports of illicit drug activities in the community.
Intelligence sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday, August 6, 2026, that operatives from Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace stormed the hideout and apprehended five suspects.
The suspects were identified as Lance Corporal Luka Yakubu of the 82 Battalion, Abdulkarim Abubakar, Adam Musa, John Isah, and Charles Ibrahim.
During the operation, troops recovered quantities of substances suspected to be marijuana and other illicit drugs. The recovered items have been taken into custody and are expected to undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that the arrested soldier had allegedly been absent without official leave (AWOL) and was reportedly known for involvement in illicit drug trafficking activities.
Security sources disclosed that all five suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to determine the full extent of their alleged criminal activities and any possible links to wider drug trafficking or organised criminal networks operating within Plateau State.
Authorities said the raid forms part of Operation Enduring Peace’s sustained campaign against criminal hideouts, illicit drug trafficking, and other activities believed to be fueling violent crimes and insecurity across the state.
The sources added that intelligence-driven operations targeting drug traffickers, illegal arms dealers, and other criminal elements will continue across the Joint Operations Area as security agencies intensify efforts to improve public safety and curb criminality in Plateau State.
