A video showing a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Okunerere, dismantling a traditional shrine with his bare hands has gone viral, triggering widespread debate and mixed reactions across social media.
The footage, which has been widely circulated online, captures the cleric physically pulling down the structure without the use of tools during what he described as a symbolic act of destroying “evil altars and shrines.”
Rev. Fr. Okunerere, who serves as the Spiritual Director of the Okunerere Adoration Ministry in Nsukka, Enugu State, was seen forcefully tearing apart the shrine as onlookers watched.
According to the priest, the action represented a physical demonstration of breaking what he considers evil altars and shrines.
The viral video has since divided opinions among Nigerians.
