President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the composition of a high-level Federal Government delegation, led by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to attend the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NDIEC) in Toronto, Canada.
The conference, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” is scheduled to hold from August 12 to 15, 2026, and is expected to bring together government officials, investors, business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday by its Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
According to the statement, NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the calibre of the Federal Government delegation underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening trade, investment and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada.
She explained that the conference was conceived as a high-level investment platform designed to deepen bilateral economic ties while connecting global investors with opportunities across critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy.
The Nigerian delegation will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Also expected at the event are several state governors, including Charles Soludo of Anambra, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Uba Sani of Kaduna, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
Other members of the delegation include former presidential aide Ita Enang, the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, as well as representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Revenue Service and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi; the Executive Director of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni; and the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, are also expected to participate.
On the Canadian side, senior government officials slated to attend include the President of the Treasury Board of Canada, Shafqat Ali; Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Graham McGregor; Ontario lawmaker Deepak Anand; Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown; Brampton Councillor Rod Power; and Ontario Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities, Charmaine Williams.
NiDCOM said the conference is being organised in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja and other local and international stakeholders.
According to the commission, the event is intended to serve as a strategic platform linking members of the Nigerian diaspora, international investors and business leaders with investment-ready opportunities in Nigeria.
Discussions at the conference are expected to focus on high-impact sectors considered vital to Nigeria’s economic diversification, sustainable growth and long-term development.
