The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly shooting another man with a bow and arrow after reportedly finding him in a compromising situation with his wife in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which is under investigation, occurred near the residence of the suspect’s in-laws at Danewa-Biriri Village and left the victim with serious injuries.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, stating that the case was reported at the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly caught the victim in what he believed to be a compromising situation with his wife, leading to a confrontation that turned violent.
“The Command is investigating a case of causing grievous hurt reported at Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters,” the statement read.
It added: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident followed an allegation that a 22-year-old suspect allegedly discovered his wife in a compromising situation with another man near her parents’ residence at Danewa-Biriri Village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
“In the ensuing altercation, the suspect reportedly shot the victim with a bow and arrow, inflicting serious injuries.”
Police said the injured man was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Damaturu, where he is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
Authorities noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident before appropriate legal action is taken.
Police Arrest Five Others Over Fraud, Transformer Vandalism
In a separate development, the Yobe State Police Command also arrested five suspects in connection with alleged fraud and the vandalism of a community electricity transformer in Damaturu and Fika Local Government Areas.
According to the police, officers attached to the ‘A’ Division in Damaturu acted on a report of fraud involving food items obtained under false pretences.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 31, 2026, when unknown persons allegedly deceived a shop owner into releasing one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice after an accomplice impersonated the complainant during a telephone conversation.
Following investigations, detectives arrested two suspects identified as Mohammed Sani, 26, of Zanna Zakarya Housing Estate, and Ali Isa Waziri, 25, of Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate, Damaturu.
Police said both suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation, while the stolen food items were recovered as exhibits. Investigations are continuing ahead of their prosecution.
In another operation, police in Fika Local Government Area arrested three suspects linked to the theft of cables removed from a vandalised community transformer.
The command said it received a distress call on August 6, 2026, reporting that unknown individuals had dismantled a community transformer and stolen its power cables.
Working alongside local vigilantes and community members, police tracked down and arrested Ibrahim Musa, 23, of Bizagula Ward in Potiskum, who was allegedly found in possession of the stolen transformer cable.
Investigators said Musa confessed to the crime during questioning, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects believed to be connected to the vandalism.
The recovered transformer cable has been kept as evidence while investigators work to identify other members of the alleged criminal network.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, urged residents to obey the law, refrain from taking justice into their own hands, protect public infrastructure, and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
