A 22-year-old suspected member of Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Musa Babagoni, reportedly surrendered on September 13, 2026, two days after he escaped from the terrorist group.
According to security sources, Babagoni voluntarily turned himself in during an operation conducted by troops in collaboration with Forest Guards operating in the area.
Security personnel reportedly recovered several items from the suspect following his surrender.
The recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, magazines, a hand grenade, a locally fabricated improvised explosive device (IED), a magazine pouch and a bicycle.
The development represents another surrender by a suspected member of the Boko Haram/ISWAP group amid ongoing military operations targeting terrorist elements and their hideouts across parts of Borno State.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing further investigation and processing by the relevant security authorities.
The authorities are expected to interrogate him for intelligence that could assist ongoing operations against terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
