A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Memphis, Tennessee, United States, after allegedly attacking his mother with a baseball bat following an argument over food.
The suspect, identified as Deangelo Billingsley, was reportedly at home with his mother on September 5, 2026, when an argument broke out between them, according to court documents cited by Law&Crime.
The dispute allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with authorities accusing Billingsley of assaulting his mother.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Billingsley allegedly went to his mother’s bedroom, picked up an aluminium baseball bat and charged at her before striking her in the head.
Police officers who arrived at the residence following the alleged assault reportedly observed a laceration on the woman’s forehead.
The victim allegedly told authorities that her son had attacked her before she was taken to a hospital for treatment of what police described as critical injuries.
Following his arrest, Billingsley allegedly admitted to investigators that he grabbed an aluminium bat from his bedroom and charged at his mother with it.
Police documents quoted him as saying that the altercation began because his mother, identified as Banks in the court documents, had not gotten him any food.
“Billingsley said that the altercation started due to Banks not getting him any food,” police reportedly stated.
Billingsley was subsequently charged with attempted second-degree murder and domestic assault causing bodily harm.
The allegations against him remain matters for the court to determine.
