
The Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities has condemned the alleged r@pe of a 20-year old married woman with intellectual disability in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The woman, who is reportedly four months pregnant, was allegedly r@ped on September 9, 2026, at Ajegunle Street, Ore, by a 40-year-old married man identified as Tomiwa.
The Board Chairman of the Agency, Princess Folashade Arise, who disclosed this on Friday, September 18, said the incident was reported by a concerned elder in the community.
According to her, upon receiving the report, she contacted the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force in Ore, ACP Femi Iwasoku, who subsequently directed the Divisional Police Officer of Ore Division to act on the matter.
She said the suspect was immediately apprehended following the police intervention.
Arise commended the Area Commander for his prompt response to the case and his attention to issues affecting persons with disabilities in Odigbo Local Government Area.
She said the agency, through one of the leaders of persons with disabilities in Ore, Mr Ayeniromo, was also present in court on September 18 to ensure that the matter received appropriate legal attention.
The chairman said the agency would continue to monitor the case until its conclusion, stressing the need for justice for the victim.
She also cited provisions of Nigerian laws which provide protection against sexual violence and discrimination, including the Criminal Code, the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
Arise vowed that the agency would follow the case to its logical conclusion.
