About 500 women have received cooking gas cylinders as part of a grassroots empowerment initiative organised to mark the 66th birthday of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The initiative was held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Waterside Community in Eti-Osa, Lagos, under the Team BAT-KOHrrect platform associated with Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
The beneficiaries were reportedly presented with 3kg cooking gas cylinders, while financial assistance was also provided to support refilling the cylinders.
The intervention was targeted at women and families who had relied on firewood and charcoal for cooking, providing them with an alternative source of household energy.
Beyond the distribution of the cylinders, the organisers also provided practical safety education on the proper handling, storage and use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The programme formed part of activities held to celebrate First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who turned 66 on September 21, 2026.
The First Lady has received several birthday messages from political leaders and groups, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), which commended her humanitarian initiatives and public service.
The gas-cylinder distribution has therefore combined the birthday celebration with a grassroots intervention aimed at providing practical support to women in the community.
