Two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has taken his training to another level as he steps up preparations for his expected blockbuster showdown with fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury.
Joshua shared a video of himself undergoing an unusual stretching and conditioning workout at his training camp in Dubai.
In the footage, the 36-year-old boxer was strapped to a modern Pravilo machine, which stretched his arms and legs into a starfish-like position before rotating his body.
The painful-looking exercise has been described as “torture” training by British media outlets, including the Daily Mail and The Sun, because of the extreme positions Joshua was placed in during the session.
Joshua appeared to make light of the intense workout, captioning the Instagram video: “When the instructor says, relax and breathe.”
The Pravilo machine is associated with Slavic and Russian training traditions and is designed to assist with stretching, mobility and physical conditioning.
Joshua’s latest training session comes amid preparations for a proposed fight against Tyson Fury, one of the biggest potential heavyweight clashes in British boxing.
The much-anticipated bout is reportedly being targeted for Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in December, following reports that earlier plans for the fight to take place in New York had changed.
Joshua has previously fought twice in Cardiff, defeating Carlos Takam in 2017 before beating Joseph Parker in 2018.
A showdown with Fury would mark the first time the two prominent British heavyweights have faced each other in the ring, adding further anticipation to the proposed contest.
