A Lagos teenager who was remanded in custody in 2022 following an alleged case involving a pair of slippers similar to those worn by a complainant has regained his freedom after spending nearly four years behind bars.
The teenager was reportedly arrested and detained after authorities allegedly linked him to a complaint based largely on the similarity between the slippers he was wearing and those belonging to the complainant.
Following his arrest, he was remanded in custody in 2022 as the legal process continued.
However, what was expected to be a relatively straightforward legal matter reportedly dragged on for years, leaving the teenager in custody for a prolonged period.
After spending close to four years behind bars, the teenager has now regained his freedom.
The circumstances surrounding the case, including the allegations that led to his arrest and the legal proceedings that followed, have also raised questions about the length of time the teenager spent in custody before eventually regaining his freedom.
As the teenager begins life outside custody again, attention is expected to remain on the circumstances of his detention, the handling of his case and the events that ultimately led to his release.
