A Nigerian woman has sparked debate online after calling for DNA tests to be banned in marriages, arguing that they contribute to the breakdown of families.
In a video circulating on social media, the woman questioned why men who cheat and sometimes bring children from other relationships into their marriages should be treated differently from women who engage in similar behaviour.
She argued that women should also be allowed to have children outside their marriages without the children’s paternity being questioned.
According to her, any child a woman gives birth to while she is married should be regarded as the husband’s child, regardless of whether the woman was unfaithful.
The woman further argued that DNA testing is often driven by a lack of trust between couples and claimed that eliminating the practice would help more marriages survive.
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with social media users debating issues surrounding infidelity, paternity, trust and the role of DNA testing in marriage.
