Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has stirred controversy after describing Igbo people supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government as “wicked” while declaring his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Fayose made the remarks in a video posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
Speaking about political developments in the South-East, he claimed that no Igbo politician in the last 40 years had achieved what Obi has achieved politically, except the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Fayose said:
“Any Igbo man supporting this APC government is a wicked Igbo man. When it comes to politics in Igbo land, in the last 40 years, apart from late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, no other Igbo man has done what Peter Obi has done.”
He also criticised Igbo people who do not support the former Anambra State governor, describing them as “wicked and jealous.”
According to Fayose, Obi’s political prospects in the 2027 election would not depend solely on support from the South-East.
He expressed confidence that the NDC presidential candidate would win the election regardless of whether he receives the backing of Igbo voters.
“You all should know that with or without you, Obi will still win come January 2027,” Fayose said.
Fayose’s statement comes amid increasing political activity and competing positions from political actors and supporters ahead of the 2027 general election.
His claim that Obi will win the election is a political prediction and does not represent an established electoral outcome. The 2027 presidential election is yet to be held, and the eventual result will be determined by voters and the official electoral process.
Fayose’s comments have also reignited discussions over political allegiance in the South-East and whether support for political parties should be influenced by ethnic identity.
