A Nigerian man has sparked mixed reactions online after a video showing him tearing his academic certificates in frustration over the lack of benefits from his education went viral.
In the widely circulated clip, the man disclosed that he graduated with a Second Class Upper division in Psychology before proceeding to tear documents that appeared to include his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results.
Visibly frustrated, he lamented that his years of academic hard work had yielded little or no reward, adding that his qualifications had failed to favour him in the real world.
The incident has reignited conversations about graduate unemployment, the struggle for meaningful employment and the growing frustration among young Nigerians who believe their educational qualifications have not translated into better opportunities.
The video has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users expressing sympathy for the man’s situation and pointing to the difficulties many graduates face while searching for jobs.
Others, however, questioned whether the documents he destroyed were the original certificates or coloured photocopies, expressing doubts about the authenticity of the papers shown in the video.
As reactions continue to trail the clip, the circumstances surrounding the man’s action and the authenticity of the documents remain unclear.
