Igbo Essay Competition: Group Lauds HRM, Igwe Sir Ben Emeka’s “Uncommon Generosity” Towards Igbo Language Education

Non-partisan Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Anambra Central People’s Forum has lauded the “uncommon generosity” of HRM, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, JP (Oke-Ebo II of Umueri) towards Igbo Language Education.

The Grand finale of the Igbo Essay Competition which took place on Friday, 17th November, 2023 at the Auditorium of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, was a significant gathering for the Igbo nation as many prominent Igbo sons and daughters, graced the noble Igbo event.

In a Press Release made available to journalists in Awka, and signed by its Chairman, the Group said: “We are happy to note that HRM, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka’s “Uncommon Generosity” towards Igbo Language Education has brought positive energy in moulding the younger generation to build capacity in the area of Igbo speaking, writing and research for sustained growth of the Igbo race in time and eternity”.

The Group also described HRM, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, JP (Oke-Ebo II of Umueri kingdom), as a man of peace and love with a large heart who has endeared himself to many through his outstanding generosity.

Also speaking, one of the respected Patrons of the reputable Igbo socio-cultural Group and prominent Founder of Otu Suwakwa Igbo (Nig.) Initiative, Professor Pita Ejiofor commended HRM, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, JP, for his uncommon benevolence towards Igbo Language Education which will help the students in getting a better sense of their cultural background, and called on Ndigbo to accord topmost priority to the promotion of Igbo language.
Professor Ejiofor, who is a one-time Vice-Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, described Oke-Ebo II of Umueri as a revered and respected Traditional Ruler who had never left anyone in doubt about the love of his mother tongue and proud Igbo heritage! Ejiofor called on governments, across Igboland to save Igbo language from extinction by intensifying the enforcement of the Igbo Language Usage and Enforcement Law 2020, on teaching of Igbo language in schools.

Professor Ejiofor also called on religious leaders in Igboland to always conduct their services in Igboland, charging parents to ensure that they converse with their children in Igbo language in their various homes.
