The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has called on the public to submit any evidence against its pastors accused of homosexuality for further investigation.
Gists9ja reports that this follows the church’s recent suspension of several pastors due to these allegations.
In a memo dated October 28, 2024, the church announced the indefinite suspension of two youth ministers while investigations are ongoing.
The memo, signed by Sunday Akande, the RCCG’s national overseer, stated that a thorough inquiry into the sexual misconduct claims is necessary. Akande reiterated that the church’s doctrine strictly opposes homosexuality, citing biblical references.
According to ChurchTimes, the RCCG has invited anyone with relevant evidence against the pastors to come forward. They provided an email address (rccgadm@gmail.com) and a phone number (09039000700) for submitting information, stressing that only verified evidence will be considered.
In response to the allegations, Ayorinde AdeBello, one of the accused pastors, has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he has never engaged in sexual acts with male teenagers.
He explained that his silence had been misinterpreted as an admission of guilt, which prompted his clarification. AdeBello also stated that a viral WhatsApp screenshot circulating online was misquoted and taken out of context, claiming it pertained to a discussion about male reproductive health and self-esteem among teenagers in a WhatsApp group.
