The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reassured voters in Ondo State of its preparedness for the upcoming governorship election, scheduled for Saturday.
INEC emphasized its commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful election process, with a promise not to let the voters down.
Professor Kunle Ajayi, INEC’s National Commissioner responsible for supervising elections in Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, conveyed this assurance during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Friday. He expressed confidence that INEC had completed all necessary preparations and was fully ready to conduct the election. Ajayi assured the people of Ondo State that the Commission had worked diligently to ensure the election would meet expectations.
“We have carried out all our duties and are satisfied with the progress made. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, we want to ensure that they know that we will not disappoint them,” Ajayi stated. His remarks were aimed at boosting voter confidence and reinforcing INEC’s readiness to oversee a fair and orderly election process.
It was noted that just one day before the election, INEC had begun the distribution of sensitive materials to the various local government areas (LGAs) of Ondo State. This distribution process took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) premises in Alagbaka, Akure, with the full presence of party agents, armed security personnel, and commercial buses hired specifically for the operation. The careful monitoring of the process was designed to guarantee the security and transparency of the materials’ transport.
Ajayi took the opportunity to highlight the progress of the electoral logistics, noting that, unlike the challenges faced during the Edo State governorship election in September, all registered areas (RAs) in Ondo State had successfully received their sensitive materials in preparation for the polls. This, he emphasized, was a major step forward in ensuring that the election would run smoothly without any delays.
“I want to assure the people of Ondo State that everything is in place,” Ajayi continued. “As of 3 pm yesterday, all Registered Areas had received their materials. The next step is to move these materials to the Polling Units. I personally visited some of these areas this afternoon, and everything looks set for tomorrow.”
Ajayi’s statements underscore INEC’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and preparedness as Ondo State heads to the polls to elect a new governor. With all logistics in place, INEC has emphasized its determination to provide a credible and free electoral process for the Sunshine State’s citizens.
