Armed terrorists launched a deadly attack on the Kungurki community in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving devastation in their wake.
The assault, which occurred under the cover of darkness, resulted in the tragic death of an elderly man and the abduction of 13 residents, including a two-month-old baby and his mother.
The attack was confirmed on Sunday by Zagazola Makama, a renowned expert on counterterrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin. According to intelligence sources, the assailants descended upon the village while firing sporadically to instill fear among the locals. In addition to the killings and abductions, the terrorists looted several shops, making off with food items, household supplies, and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying, with the attackers moving swiftly to round up their victims before retreating into the nearby forest. “They took women and children, and an elderly man was killed in cold blood,” one resident recounted. The abduction of the vulnerable, including infants and the elderly, has heightened fears among locals, as the community grapples with the ongoing threat of armed banditry and terrorism in the region.
This attack adds to the growing insecurity in Zamfara State, where armed groups continue to terrorize rural communities, abducting and killing residents at will. Local authorities have yet to comment on the latest attack, but the community remains in shock, demanding greater security measures to protect their lives and livelihoods.
