VP Shettima Storms Kano Amid Police Barricade of Emir Sanusi’s Palace

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Kano on Friday to evaluate the state’s manufacturing sector as part of efforts to boost industrial development and create employment opportunities.

His visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to fostering economic growth in key regions of the country.

During his stay, Shettima is scheduled to visit the Mamuda Group, a prominent local conglomerate operating across multiple industries. At the company’s headquarters, he will meet with its executive leadership to discuss strategies for enhancing productivity and expanding operations. The Vice President will also tour the Mamuda Beverages Factory in the Challawa Industrial Estate, where he plans to inspect various critical sections, including the syrup room, production line, and water treatment unit.

Shettima’s visit, however, coincides with heightened tension in Kano, particularly around the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. Armed policemen and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly surrounded the palace, restricting movement in and out of the premises.

The unrest stems from the Emir’s reported plan to accompany Munir Sanusi to his district posting in Bichi, a move that has reignited disputes over the legitimacy of the Bichi Emirate Council. The controversy over the emirship in Kano has persisted since May, involving a protracted conflict between the Kano State Government and the deposed Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, over the rightful claim to the throne.
