Gunmen Assassinate Delta Varsity Don

A professor at Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. Emeka Chukwuma, has reportedly been killed by unidentified gunmen in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Reports indicate that the 56-year-old academic had returned to his hometown of Umueji, Asaba, on Friday evening for his usual weekend visit when he was tragically assassinated in his home.

The incident has heightened concerns among residents of Asaba, who are already alarmed by the rising cases of killings and kidnappings in the area. Many have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

A source close to the late professor told The PUNCH:
“Prof. Emeka Chukwuma was assassinated in Asaba on Friday night. He was a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, Anwai campus, before moving to the Abraka campus after the Anwai campus was converted to Dennis Osadebey University.

“Prof. Chukwuma came home every weekend, and it is unfortunate that he was killed yesterday in his residence at St. Bridges area of Umueji Quarter, Asaba. Asaba has become increasingly unsafe, and we are deeply troubled by the situation.”

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated:
“Indeed, the incident has been reported to the police, and we are actively investigating the matter to identify and apprehend those responsible.”
