Injured NASS Staff Receives N25m Compensation from Social Insurance Trust Fund

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has fulfilled its commitment to workers’ welfare by compensating an injured staff member of the National Assembly with a ₦25 million payout under the organization’s social insurance scheme.

During a formal presentation on Tuesday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NSITF, Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, handed over the compensation cheque to the Clerk of the National Assembly, Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, who received it on behalf of the injured employee.

Speaking at the event, Faleye emphasized that the payout reflects NSITF’s dedication to providing financial relief to workers who suffer injuries while on duty. He reiterated the importance of the Social Insurance Scheme, which serves as a critical safety net for employees across both the public and private sectors, ensuring that workplace accidents do not leave workers financially stranded.

“This ₦25 million compensation cheque, awarded to a dedicated female staff member of the National Assembly who sustained an injury in the line of duty, symbolizes what NSITF stands for,” Faleye stated.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that every insured worker receives the compensation they deserve. That is why we continue to emphasize the importance of compliance—so that all enrollees remain eligible for benefits when the need arises.”

National Assembly Reaffirms Support for Workers’ Welfare

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the injured staff member, Barrister Ogunlana commended NSITF for prioritizing the well-being of Nigerian workers. He described the event as a significant milestone in ensuring financial security for employees facing workplace-related health challenges.

“This initiative is not just about financial assistance; it is about restoring hope, easing burdens, and reaffirming our collective responsibility to support hardworking Nigerians,” Ogunlana remarked.

“I commend the NSITF for implementing this scheme effectively. However, I urge the agency to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements promptly, without unnecessary delays. The National Assembly will continue to provide legislative support to strengthen NSITF’s capacity in fulfilling its mandate.”

Ensuring Timely Compensation for Workers

The NSITF’s Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS) is designed to provide financial assistance to workers who suffer work-related injuries, disabilities, or fatalities. The agency has consistently advocated for greater compliance from employers to sustain the program’s efficiency.
