Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred controversy online after sharing a video that allegedly shows a group of Houthi militants being bombed in Yemen.
The monochrome clip, which appears to be from aerial surveillance, captures a munition striking a group of individuals gathered among what looks like rural ruins. No movement or activity is visible in the aftermath of the strike, leaving the fate of those in the footage unclear.
Trump posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), with the caption: “These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!”
However, the post sparked immediate backlash, with several users questioning the accuracy of Trump’s claim. Critics argued that the individuals seen in the video might have been civilians, not Houthi fighters, pointing to the lack of identifiable weapons or military gear.
The video surfaces amid heightened tensions in the region, following the downing of another U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone by Houthi forces in Yemen. The incident marks the third such drone lost to the rebels since March 3, and the second since the U.S. began launching daily airstrikes against Houthi targets.
The MQ-9 Reaper drones, according to the U.S. Congressional Research Service, are valued at around $30 million each. Their increasing losses have raised concerns about the effectiveness and cost of ongoing operations in the region.
The U.S. government has not confirmed the authenticity or origin of the video Trump shared, and it remains unclear whether the footage depicts an actual military operation or has been misrepresented.
