Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Chairman of the Ondo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Aladesuyi Kayode, popularly known as JOTINA, along with two other individuals in the Ilu Abo community of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents and political stakeholders, as insecurity continues to affect several communities across the state.
In a recent development, members of the council chairman’s family revealed that the abductors have contacted them and are demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for his release. According to the family, the kidnappers reached out on Tuesday morning with the demand, leaving relatives deeply worried about the safety of the victims.
The family has appealed to friends, associates, and members of the public to support efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted chairman and the two other victims. Meanwhile, the Akoko North West Youth Forum (ANWYF) has condemned the abduction and called for the immediate and safe release of Hon. Aladesuyi and the two other victims. The group described the incident as a serious threat to peace and security in the area and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Adding another dimension to the unfolding situation, some of Hon. Aladesuyi’s past social media posts have resurfaced online following news of his abduction. In the posts, the council chairman had praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suggesting that the administration had made significant progress in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
The resurfaced comments have triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms, with some users expressing sympathy for the abducted official while others highlighted the irony between his earlier remarks and the circumstances surrounding his kidnapping.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident, but residents and community leaders continue to call for swift action to secure the victims’ release and address the rising wave of insecurity in the area.
