Franck Ribery is set to announce his retirement at 39 years old as persistent knee injuries have caught up with the Frenchman.
Ribery is currently at Serie A side Salernitana – but he’s been out of action since August. Ribery had hoped to play into his 40s, but according to L’Equipe, he has suffered from frequent cartilage issues and growing pains in his knees.He is best remembered for his time at Bayern Munich – where he was part of one of the most dominant European sides during the 2010s. In Bavaria, Ribery won the Champions League as well as a number of Bundesliga titles.
Ribery started his career with US Boulogne, and after a series of spells across France, and one in Turkey, the winger made a name for himself at Marseille.
And after impressing in the port city, Ribery made the switch to Bayern Munich. In Bavaria, Ribery rose to become of the best wide-men on the planet, racking up 83 goals and 120 assists in the Bundesliga, predominantly from the left flank.He left Bayern for Italy in 2019, when after a short spell with Fiorentina, he signed for newly-promoted Salernitana last summer.
Ribery’s last minutes of competitive football look set to be a second-half cameo against Roma in August – his only appearance in the Serie A this season.
