The Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe has reacted to the criticisms over Peter Obi’s visits to power brokers in the country
Reacting to the criticisms in an interview with Channels TV, Okupe said the purpose of Obi’s visits to stakeholders and power brokers in the country was to carry everybody along to avoid a repeat of what happened in the past when someone (MKO Abiola) who was loved by Nigerians “won” an election but was not allowed to rule by some stakeholders.
Recall that the June 12, 1993, presidential election which was annulled by former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida was adjudged to have been won by the late business mogul, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO)Abiola. (Source: Vanguard)
About 29:00 minutes into a video shared on YouTube by Channels TV, Okupe said “You know that somebody won an election in this country, he did not rule. He was loved by Nigerians but some stakeholders stopped him. We have to avoid that by carrying everybody along. Even if they don’t agree with us initially, let them not oppose us; let them not see us as enemies. We are not enemies of anybody or any part of the country. We are just a set of people who mean well for the country”.
