NNPP Calls For Immediate Cancellation Of Presidential Election Results

NNPP Calls For Immediate Cancellation Of Presidential Election Results

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has asked for the results of the 2023 presidential election, which took place on February 25, to be changed or thrown out.

According to report, the party made the request at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said on Wednesday that Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, won the February 25 election.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who got 6,101,533 votes, were Tinubu’s closest competitors. Atiku Abubakar got 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi got 6,101,533 votes.

With 1,496,687 votes, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came in far behind in fourth place.

Rufai Alkali, the national chairman of the NNPP, said at the press conference that the way INEC ran the election brought the country back to the time before 2015.

“We are deeply concerned that going by what had happened on election day, the election umpire has taken our country back to the pre-2015 era of election where everything goes: where voters were deliberately and systematically disenfranchised; where ballot box snatching and ballot box stuffing was the norm; where voter suppression was widespread; where violence and vote-buying were the main deciding factors of the outcome of elections; where security agents openly take side with the ruling party and participate actively in rigging elections,” he said.

Voter suppression, vote-buying, BVAS failure and over-voting, lying about IReV servers, and an election plagued by unprecedented violence were all things Alkali stated his party noticed, as well as INEC’s purposeful undermining of the NNPP in the process and allowing of campaigning on election day by President Muhammadu Buhari and others.

Hence, he urged on behalf of the NNPP that the election be cancelled.

He said, “To save our democracy and our country, the present election results must not be accepted by Nigerians and by all friends of Nigeria. We are therefore calling on the immediate suspension of the announcement of results and the cancellation of the 2023 presidential election across the country. New election should be conducted as soon as possible.”
