A group known as Enugu state coalition for accountability has vowed to drag the executive chairman of Enugu south local government Hon. Barr. Chimezie Nkwuo the executive chairman of Enugu south local government to the EFCC over what they termed as unaccountability and diversion of public funds.
The group explained today while addressing the pressmen after an emergency meeting that the local government chairman has vehemently and grossly refused to use the allocation meant for the local government for the good of the people. The group explained that since Hon.Chimezie assumed office, he has been embezzling and stacking the public funds in order to use it to secure his second term agenda.
While speaking, the group challenged the local government chairman to point at any single project which he has commissioned since he took over as the local government chairman. They added that recently, the local government chairman reportedly claimed that even the governor of the state at the moment lacks the moral capacity to bring any policy on accountability since he( the governor ) has some questionable issues hanging around his shoulder such as the nysc certificate forgery.
However, the group vowed that all the legal steps were being taken to petition the local government chairman before the EFCC.
According to them, the local government chairman has been wasting the local government’ s resources leaving the people of the area to keep suffering from lack of water, poor roads, no functional primary healthcare centers etc.
They however encouraged other lovers of good governance in Enugu state to join hands in sanitizing the political offices in Enugu state by making sure that people like Hon. Chimezie are not allowed to remain in office to the detriment of the poor masses.
According to report, Hon. Chimezie Nkwuo has claimed that that the former Governor ifeanyi Ugwuanyi through Hon Dr Festus uzor took greater percentage of the funds they received from Federation account and since his assumption of office, it been difficult for him to put resources together to commence any projects.
One of the members of the group Mr. Chidi Nwankwo expressed disappointment over the nonchalant attitude of the local government chairman towards his duty as a local government chairman. He maintained that the interest of the general public remained the center of every government and that Hon. Chimezie Nkwuo must be compelled to face the wrath of the law for undermining the interests of the good people of Enugu south .
