Chaos erupted in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, on Thursday as residents rioted over the murder of the emir of Gobir in Gawata town of Sokoto state, Alhaji Isa Bawa.
Bawa was abducted along with his son on his way to his native town of Sabon Birni near the border with Niger after attending a meeting in the regional capital Sokoto.
After three weeks in captivity, the abductors released a video of the emir pleading with the Nigerian government to help secure his release before the sudden demise.
Following his death, youths in Sabon Birni took to the streets to burn tyres to express their grievances, which led to a clash between them and police officers who tried to quell the riot.
